RAPTOR - from the Latin raptare "to seize and carry away"

The Australasian Raptor Association was established in 1979 to promote the study, conservation and management of diurnal and nocturnal Raptors (Birds of Prey) particularly throughout Australia and South-east Asia and  to develop partnerships with industry, educational institutions, government and non-government organisations on matters of Raptor Conservation.

The Australasian Raptor Association can provide expert advice, information, training on the biology, ecology, conservation requirements, Raptor study techniques, First aid, housing and rehabilitation techniques of Raptors.

The Australasian Raptor Association will continue to promote community awareness on the conservation requirements of Raptors and the conservation strategies available to improve the status of threatened Raptor species and populations.

We are a specialist group of Birds Australia, and have a close association with a number of government departments and research institutions throughout the region.

Our membership includes a broad spectrum of professional and amateur scientists as well as many who simply enjoy Raptors. The Australasian Raptor Association, and its members are involved in a wide range of conservation programs in keeping with our strategic plan:

Advice to legislators and training for Raptor Rehabilitators.

Membership is open to anyone with an interest in Raptors (Birds of Prey) and members receive Circus, a biannual newsletter dealing with Raptor issues and Boobook, a magazine packed with valuable information on Raptors, including research works by both amateurs and professionals, from around the world. We also release occasional publications such as:
Australian Raptor Studies II

In addition, members are notified of opportunities to participate in field work through this web site and up coming events through our regular publications.
